Poker Hands
|
1.Texas Holdem Poker
Strategies: Hold`em is basically HIGH card game. The players holding two good high cards have the best chance at the best hand or a draw to the best hand after the flop. Only play strong hands, that will stand a raise or multiple raises, from early betting positions. Play medium strength and other playable hands from the later positions if you have a good chance of seeing the flop at a reasonable price. Play strong high hands MOST of the time, and play them very aggressively. Take all the raises you can get. If you don`t thin out the competition, you reduce your chances of winning. Plus, your aggressive play before the flop can add credibility to any strong play you might want to use on the next round if a garbage flop falls and you want to try a steal. Be ready to fold your high pair if you get a lot of action with a threatening flop.
Rules: Highest hand wins || Players may use one, both or neither of their hole cards to make their highest hand || Ace plays both high and low for straights || Three raise limit per round || Cards speak.
Example: $2/$4 Hold`em with a double blind.
At casino Hold`em tables, a round plastic marker called the dealer "button" is placed in front of the player who would be dealing if a house dealer were not provided. The button is moved one seat clockwise after each game and the card distribution and betting starts to the left of that position. Each player is dealt two cards face down. Then, a total of five community cards are dealt face up in the center of the table in three betting segments (3-1-1). After all the cards are dealt the players make the best hand that they can by combining either one, both, or neither of their two hole cards with five community cards. Using the illustration above, a player holding a king and a ten would end up with two pair, kings over tens with an ace. With this board, that player`s two pair would be vulnerable to higher two pairs, trips, straights and flushes.
2.Seven Card Stud Poker
Strategies: 7 Card Stud (High) has long been a casino table favorite, recently supplanted by Texas Hold `em as poker`s premier game. 7 Stud is still a very popular game, and is actually my favorite. There are plenty of 7 card stud games to be found online as well. Absolute Poker has active games from micro limits to $5/$10. Caribbean Sun and the Poker Room network have a good base of 7 card stud players. Finally, for you high limit players, you can toss $100 chips into the pot at Party Poker`s 7 Card Stud tables.
This variation of poker rewards careful observation and memorization of cards and player tendencies. A student of the game can make a lot of money playing 7 card stud, online or off! This 7 Card Stud strategy article aims to help you do just that.
Rules: Seven Card Stud Poker have following Rules.
1. The first round of betting starts with a forced bet by the lowest upcard by suit. On subsequent betting rounds, the high hand on board initiates the action (a tie is broken by position, with the player who received cards first acting first).
2. The player with the forced bet has the option of opening for a full bet.
3. Increasing the amount wagered by the opening forced bet up to a full bet does not count as a raise, but merely as a completion of the bet. For example: In $15-$30 stud, the lowcard opens for $5. If the next player increases the bet to $15 (completes the bet), up to three raises are then allowed when using a three-raise limit.
4. In all fixed-limit games, when an open pair is showing on fourth street (second upcard), any player has the option of betting either the lower or the upper limit. For example: In a $5-$10 game, if you have a pair showing and are the high hand, you may bet either $5 or $10. If you bet $5, any player then has the option to call $5, raise $5, or raise $10. If a $10 raise is made, then all other raises must be in increments of $10. If the player high with the open pair on fourth street checks, then subsequent players have the same options that were given to the player who was high.
3.Seven Stud Hi Lo Poker
Strategies: In this game the high hand winner must split the pot with the player with the best qualifying low hand. There is always a high hand winner but not always a low. For a hand to qualify for low, it must have five denominations no higher than an eight. Any five of your seven cards may be played for high and any five can be played for low. Aces are played both high and low. Straights and flushes do not disqualify a hand for low, so a player ending with 5 4 3 2 A would have an unbeatable low hand and a 5 high straight to play for high. This hand would have an excellent chance of winning both ways. In this example, the player could also have another hand that is higher than the 5 high straight to play for high.
Rules: Highest hand splits the pot with the lowest qualifying hand || To qualify for the low half of the pot, the low hand must be 8,7,6,5,4 or lower || Ace plays both high and low || Three raise limit per round || Cards speak
Example: $2/$4 Seven Card Stud games.
After all players have anted $.50, (1.) Each player is dealt two cards face down and one face up. The player with the lowest up card makes a forced bet of either $1 half minimum or $2 full bet (player`s choice) to start the game. The rest of the players, in clockwise order, either call the opening bet, raise it, or not call and "fold" their hands back to the dealer. (2.) All get a fourth card face up followed by a round of $2 betting. From this round on, the player with the highest up card(s) is always first to check or bet. (3.) After the fifth card is dealt face up, the minimum bet goes to $4. (4.) The sixth card is dealt face up and there is another round of $4 betting. (5.) The seventh and last card is dealt face down and followed by the final round of $4 betting. The dealer then determines the winning high hand and low hand, if any, and awards the pot. The ideal result, of course, is to win both ends of the pot with a low straight, a low hand with a flush or any other hand that will win the whole pot, including a high hand when nobody qualifies for low.
4.Omaha Hold`em Poker
Strategies: In full ring, limit Omaha, it usually takes the "nut" hand, or something close to that, to win! . .For purpose here, poker describe the "nut" as a hand that can only be beaten by hidden quads and straight flushes. These killer hands are usually referred to as the "pure" nuts. . . Two pair and trips don`t win very often in this game. You need to shoot for the nut straight, nut flush, or nut full house most of the time. . . This is why -
Omaha players all start with four cards. Each four card hand contains six Hold`em hands when the four cards are converted to all possible combinations of two. ie: ABCD = AB AC AD BC BD CD. (Players must
play two cards from their hands and three from the board). If you are in a pot with five other players after
the flop, it is sort of comparable to a Texas Hold`em game against thirty other players, because each of
your five competitors is holding six Hold`em hands instead of one. So if you get down to the river
with a very good hand, but one that can be beaten by some other two card combinations, brace yourself for a loss because they are likely to be out there somewhere.. . . Your high end straight on the flop runs into serious problems when the board turns up three suited cards or a pair. A flush or a full house will usually pop up to beat you. . . In Omaha, always play for the NUT!
Rules: Omaha is similar to Texas Hold`em. The difference is that the hands in Omaha are usually much better, since you get to choose from 9 cards total.
1. Hole Cards. Each player is dealt four cards face down.
2. The Flop. Three cards are dealt face up on the table.
3. The Turn. A fourth card is dealt to the table.
4. The River. Finally, a fifth card is dealt to the table.
The five cards on the table are community cards. Your hand is formed by taking exactly two hole cards and exactly three community cards, and forming the best poker hand possible. But remember, all the players have access to the community cards. When played for money, there is a round of betting after a round of cards is dealt (so four rounds of betting in total)..
5.Omaha Hi Lo Poker
Strategies: Omaha Hi/Lo is a game within a game. There is the ability to share the pot by having the best high or the best low hand. Alternatively you could win the whole pot by having the best high and best low hand or having the best high hand and no low hand exists. This is known as scooping. Of all the online poker variations, Omaha Hi/Lo would be one of the most complex to master. Accordingly Omaha Hi/Lo Poker Strategy is not the easiest to know well.
Not an easy game to master, Omaha Hi/Lo requires your online poker strategy to be at the top of its game. This Omaha Hi/Lo poker strategy guide will get you there.
There are many components to The Guide to Omaha Hi/Lo Poker Strategy:
* Omaha Hi/Lo Poker Pre-Flop Strategy
* Omaha Hi/LoPoker Flop Strategy
* Omaha Poker Hi/Lo Turn Strategy
* Omaha Poker Hi/Lo River Strategy
Omaha Hi/Lo poker is a spin-off from Omaha poker which is turn is a variation of Texas Holdem. Like Texas Holdem the game involves each player receiving down cards followed by a course of community cards being revealed after which comes a round of betting.
Like a good novel, a twist normally follows the unveiling of each community card and this guide looks at what to do both pre-flop, post-flop, at the turn and then finally at the river.
Rules: Omaha Hi-Lo is a community card game. Every player is dealt four cards face down, followed by five community cards dealt face up in the middle of the table. The five community cards may be used by every player.
When played in casinos, Omaha Hi Lo is played with a dealer button to mark who the dealer would be if the casino weren`t providing one for the table. The button rotates clockwise around the table between every hand. This is important as the "dealer" is the last to act, and thus has the greatest advantage for that hand.
6.Five Card Stud Poker
Strategies: Five Card Stud is mostly a game of HIGH CARDS and PAIRS. Don`t play for straights and flushes unless you have three cards to a straight flush on third street, or it looks like you might luck into a straight or flush on fourth. With only one down card, it is easier than most games to put your opponents on hands. Pay close attention to how they each play. Usually don`t start without either a pair or at least one live card that
beats the board. Usually fold if you do not have at least a pair in the first three cards. Almost always fold when you are beaten on the board and do not have a good draw to the best hand.
Rules: Highest hand wins || Ace plays both high and low for straights || Three raise limit per round || Cards speak
Example: $2/$4 Five Card Stud games.
After all players have anted $.25 or so, (1.) Each player is dealt one card face down and one face up. The player with the lowest upcard makes an forced bet of either $1 half minimum bet or $2 full bet
(player`s choice) to start the game. The rest of the players, in clockwise order, either call the opening bet, raise it, or not call and "fold" their hands back to the dealer. (2.) All get a third card face up followed by a round of $2 betting. From this round on, the player with the highest upcard(s) is always first to check or bet. (3.) After the fourth card is dealt face up, the minimum bet goes to $4. (4.) Then the fifth card is dealt face up and followed by the final round of $4 betting. The dealer then determines the highest hand and awards the pot.
